Varsity, JV and Freshman Families:
Come
join us for a PADRES FAMILY BASKETBALL NIGHT AT THE ASU GAME on 1/28.
Right after the shoot out fund raiser, the ASU Men’s Basketball Team is playing
Washington State University.
If we
have at least 50 people in attendance (parents and players), the players that
show will be able to have a tour of the brand new facilities.
Fun
Team and Family Night.. No strings attached. You just need to contact
Nicole Stefani (her info is on the flyer to the right) and tell her you are
with the Marcos de Niza Basketball program and let her know how many tickets
you want for your family. The tickets are 8.00. That's not too bad
for a Men’s College Game. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!

1/19/12:
We
are already getting monies turned in for the second phase of our candy
sale fundraiser. Please encourage your sons to get all the candy sold as
quickly as possible and return the money to Coach in the marked bags
provided, so we can check him off our list. Early reports indicate it is
easy money for our program.
Also,
a reminder that our 3 point shootout is coming up quickly on Saturday,
Jan 28th. Please have your boys collect pledges and turn in their forms
on that Saturday.
Finally,
Senior Night will be held on our last home game, versus Mesa High on
February 3rd. We will recognize all of our graduating seniors that
night. For all of our senior parents, please email me a very short bio
of your son and his
activities while at MDN, plus who he will be escorted by and his future
plans. Something like this will suffice:
"Joe
Smith is escorted by him mother, Jane. He attended MDN for four years
and played basketball and baseball. Joe was also a member of the honor
society. His future plans are to attend Arizona State in the fall and
major in business."
Thanks and lets fill the stands for our final home games!

10/28/11:
An important note from Athletics about deadlines for clearance:
PLEASE NOTE: Student paperwork turned in after 11AM on Monday, October 31, 2011, will not be cleared until Tuesday. NO EXCEPTIONS.
We
realize there is a lot of information to be processed for clearance,
however, the athletics office has done everything possible to make this
process more streamlined and convenient by putting the information on
line, available 24x7. Students can turn in completed paperwork during
the school day. Students can also pay fees at the bookstore during your
work day.
The athletics department will make every effort to clear students by 3pm on Monday
for the first day of tryouts. There is a LARGE red arrow pointing to
the submission basket to turn in the Physical, Receipt, and Emergency
Consent Cards (together). There is also a reminder note of what to
check before leaving it there.
Unless your student is coming
from a Fall Sport, waiting until the week before, or even the day of
tryouts, leaves no time for mistakes and may mean your student misses
the opportunity to try out for a Winter Sport. Often the Athletic
Office receives forms that are missing the insurance information,
receipts for lock or sport fees, or boxes are not checked and parent
signatures are missed. Such things cause a delay for everyone.
-Boys
Basketball is only 1 of four other sports that clear in the winter. We
also have Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Soccer and Wrestling.
-Paperwork
is cleared in 24-48 hours, pending the number of student applications
turned in each day and is only one aspect of running the athletic
department.
Athletic paperwork can be turned in any time after March 1
of the participating year. Therefore, there is no reason for delay.
We realize physicals are often only covered once a year by insurance,
but there are many free opportunities throughout the year and sport
physicals are available for 25.00 to 30.00 through many low cost options
such as : Next Care and Fry's Little Clinic.
Thank you for
your support and diligence in inspecting your paperwork for missing
information and turning it in early whenever possible.
Have a safe an successful 2011-2012 Basketball Season.
Thank you,
Karen Stark kstark@tuhsd.k12.az.us 480 730 7655 Marcos de Niza Athletics Administrative Assistant
|
10/28/11:
Tryouts begin on Monday and according to Coach Stark, as of today, only five players are cleared to tryout.
Without
clearance, your son cannot try out for the team next week. All
paperwork must be filled out, signed, and turned into athletic office.
Players must have completed their sports physical, and have the
paperwork signed by you, player, and your doctor. Your son must also
review the concussion video online, take the test, and print your
certificate. And finally, you have to pay your sports registration fee
at the book store. Again, missing any of the above items will result in
your son being turned away on Monday. It is district policy.

Any questions should be directed to Karen Stark in the athletics office.

It was a sad end to the season on Wednesday night when the Padres lost to Lake Havasu in the 1st round of the playoffs. The stars were not aligned as the Padres had too many turnovers to win the game. They played hard to the end and we should all be proud of the accomplishment of finishing in 12th place for the season.
